We are now seeking to employ a Developmental Educator / Behavioural Specialist to join the Autism SA family on a temporary part time (.8 FTE) or full time basis. This is a temporary role replacing an employee on parental leave for a 12 month period, with the possibility of extension.

The Developmental Educator / Behavioural Specialist will work as part of a trans-disciplinary team to develop and implement a specialised group early intervention program using evidence based practice. This includes:

  • Providing a specialised early intervention program to children with Autism Spectrum Disorder attending Foundation Skills Group
  • Planning, implementing and evaluating individualised, programs in conjunction with the trans-disciplinary team
  • Working as part of the trans-disciplinary team to conuct assessments, set goals and monitor child progress
  • Conducting functional behaviour assessments and developing positive behaviour support plans
  • Working with team members and families to implement behaviour strategies
  • Maintaining records and reports including daily data collection, progress notes and reporting on outcomes
  • Facilitating programs in conjunction with key staff and monitoring program resources
  • Attending and participating in relevant meetings including reviews and transition meetings when directed and provide reports if required
  • Providing specialised advice at key transition times

The role will require you to be self-directed and work under pressure, be able to work with and alongside other professionals and inspire and motivate others.

The position will be based at Salisbury East.

Essential:

  • Tertiary qualification in disability and developmental education or related (i.e. Psychology, Disability, Education, Human Services)
  • Demonstrated experience working with individuals on the Autism Spectrum
  • Demonstrated experience conducting functional behaviour assessments and developing positive behaviour support plans
  • Familiarity with goal setting and experience in developing specific goals to meet the child’s developmental needs
  • Understanding of a holistic approach to child development

 Desirable:

  • Previous experience in a trans-disciplinary team
  • Previous experience delivering training and/or workshops
